Lally, Richard and Villeneuve head to Laguna for ALMS Round 3

May 15, 2010 · No Comments

When TRG was founded by Team Owners Kevin and Debra Buckler in 1992, just miles away from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, few would have expected that in the year 2010 the team would return to the track as one of the biggest and most dynamic teams in the sport. During next Saturday’s six-hour race, the team will enter the track as not only competitors in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron, but additionally running programs in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, GRAND-AM, and as multiple winners in many of the world’s greatest sportscar races, including three victories at The Rolex 24 at Daytona (including once overall from the GT category), as well as a class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Now as a team owner in place of driving, Kevin Buckler will arrive at the track as the the team leader for drivers’ Henri Richard, René Villeneuve, and Andy Lally in the no. 63 Future Electronics/Freescale Semiconductors/FaceCake/LifeStudio by Hitachi/Green Hills Software Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.

“Every year that we go to this track I’m reminded of how this team started,” reminisced Buckler. “Debra and I used to operate the whole organization out of our garage, and it took years of club racing and selling parts before we caught our big breaks a decade later. Every time we return here we’re reminded of how much we’ve accomplished, and how lucky we are to be fueled by our passions.”

Having sat on the pole at the previous round in Long Beach, California, TRG heads to the upcoming round in a strong position as one of the top teams, and with a strong driver lineup. Residing in Northern California, driver Henri Richard heads to the track as the hometown hero, and with over 150 guests coming to support him! As a regular instructor at the circuit, driver René Villeneuve comes in to the weekend’s event having logged thousands of miles there, and Andy Lally is a proven winner at the circuit with multiple podiums in many series and a win in 2007.

For Henri Richard, the opportunity to race in front of his friends is an experience he looks forward to.

“I love to race at this track. This was the site of my first podium and this is one of those places every race car driver dreams of racing,” stated the Frenchman. “I have many of my closest family, friends, and partners coming out to this event, so I am determined to put on a good show. Sebring and Long Beach proved how fast we could be, we just need to stay out of trouble and capitalize on the experience of the team to deliver results.”

For René Villeneuve, the opportunity to race at the classic circuit is always one he looks forward to.

“This is my home track," stated the Californian. "I do so many laps around here working with the racing school it’s as if I could drive it in my sleep. I have so many friends here and fans know me from this place so it's really special to race here. This year we have the support of FaceCake as our sponsor and we are very excited to have them on board. It really gives it a family atmosphere when you have so many good people in your life supporting you."

Additionally, TRG will be re-launching their very successful “TRG Pit Pass presented by Freescale Semiconductor” program, featuring hosts Liz Moses and Sean Heckman. Having run a similar program during all 24 hours at this year’s Rolex 24, the team will provide live video commentary throughout the race, featuring team interviews, behind-the-scenes information, and a number of surprises.

The American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Patron will be broadcast Saturday, May 29 at 1:30PM EST on CBS.
