Andy Lally and Henri Richard will start the 2010 Long Beach Grand Prix
from pole position for the GTC class tomorrow in their #63 TRG Future
Electronics Porsche. The race will be live on SPEED Channel at 8pm EST.
Lally turned a lap good enough for 2nd place in qualfying but then later
found out that the pole sitting #54 Porsche was disqualified for an
unapproved fuel. This moved Lally up to the Pole Position in his debut
at Long Beach. "This is wild" said Lally,"On Monday I was not even
expecting to be coming to California. I got a late call from Kevin to
find a ticket to come help Henri and Mark out with the car set up and
give some pointers for both of their first appearances on a street
circuit. Then yesterday, just before I left for the airport I got a call
that said make sure to bring your gear! Mark was stuck in England
because of the volcanic ash and wont be able to make the race, we ran
well in practice and then decided to have me qualify. The car that these
guys put together at TRG was excellent. I knew it would be close for
pole because of how well we were handling and this is such an important
place to handle well. I feel bad for the #54 team because Im sure this
was unintentional on their part but I have to say it is nice to grab a
pole position, especially at a place like the Long Beach Grand Prix".
Henri and Andy enter the weekend 6th in points after the season opener
in Sebring last month. This is the second of nine events of the American
Le Mans Series and Lally hopes to be around for all of them. "Henri has
been driving great and Im very happy with his pace, especially
considering that this is his first ever attempt at a street circuit, he
was very aggressive this morning in practice and he actually worried me a
bit because he came up to speed so fast. It would be great if we could
do the full season here and go for a Championship".
